The New York Times has legitimized snot rockets.
“The proper method is to blow one nostril at a time and to take decongestants, said Dr. Anil Kumar Lalwani, chairman of the department of otolaryngology at the New York University Langone Medical Center. This prevents a buildup of excess pressure. ”
The article says that usin’ the ol’ hanky ends up making for lots of pressure and sending ccrap into parts of sinuses where it wouldn’t otherwise go. Now, my personal experience is that a good, thorough purging is a good thing. (I have been told about neti pots. I am confident that I shouldn’t try that alone. So, I do my best with air and do my share of salt-water gargling.)
Oh, yea, I’m pretty thoroughly congested these days. Be careful riding behind me, especially if it’s night and you don’t have lights.
